The Lieselehof

Family business
in the second generation

Werner Morandell founded the Lieselehof winery in 1993 based on quality and sustainability. After a long search for the best locations and conditions, he discovered the unique "Kardatsch" vineyard below the steep slopes of the Mendel Mountains and decided to build the winery there. The geographical and climatic conditions seemed ideal for realizing his dream. Thirty years later, after many challenges, the second generation, with his twin sons Julian and Maximilian, now runs Lieselehof.

Our
Lieselehof locations

From the sun-drenched red wine slopes of Lake Kaltern at just over 200 meters, our vineyards stretch up to St. Anton at 500 meters. Here, most of our best white wines and Pinot Noirs thrive. At an alpine altitude of 1250 meters on the historic Mendel Pass, the cold-resistant Solaris grapes of the Lieselehof vineyard ripen in a location unique in Europe, surrounded by coniferous forests and rock faces.

Werner Morandell, Pioneer
in sustainable viticulture

As early as the 1990s, the winery's founder inquired about sustainable vineyard methods and began cultivating all his vineyards using organic methods. The major breakthrough came around the turn of the millennium when Lieselehof first planted resistant hybrid grape varieties that exhibit natural resistance to fungal diseases and therefore require minimal pesticide treatment. In practice, this means that high-quality wines can be produced without the use of pesticides and herbicides.
